Angry Baker

My image, 891 Oak Street

On a sunny day with loads to do, my friend and I decided to take a load off to try the new “bakery around the corner,” The Angry Baker.  Nestled right between German Village and Old Town East- is a cute lime green cafe on with treats galore. Their pastries range from simple to complicated with kolaches, a salted caramel apple pies, and vegan blueberry brownies.

Breakfast and lunch are both served throughout the day- which made it a perfect fit for both of our moods.  My friend ordered the vegan sloppy joe & I, the opposite. It’s a French toast sandwhich nestled in between ham & swiss, drizzled in Ohio maple syrup. Some might call it heart attack, I call it Tuesday.

The place only has seating for about 12, luckily there was a spot for us at the counter.  On my visit- the Angry Baker was only one month old and you could tell they were just starting to get in the swing of things.  The owner, Vicki Hink, was not necessarily angry, which could be said differently for her sassy male employee.  This did not, however, hinder their ability to serve some delicious bites.  I can't wait to go back here for more of their vegan and gluten free desserts. Maybe even tomorrow!

Ice Cream gone fancy

What’s delicious and flavorful but also sweet? Unique ingredients but also a treat? JENI’S!

Originally from Columbus, a native woman finds her calling in constructing the most dream like concoctions that only a genius could think of. Ugandan vanilla bean, Goat cheese with cognac fig sauce, & Wild Berry Lavender are just a couple of the top sellers.  All the ingredients are fresh and either found from valleys in Ohio to exotics from Japan.  Every ice cream, sauce, marshmallow, and praline are made from scratch in Jeni's production kitchen here in Columbus.

Their orange graphic is a simple yet distinctive design that perfectly suites the crafty flavors.  They just put up this flower tissue paper décor, that is just too adorable! DIY with colored tissue paper and pipe ties- fold the tissue to create a long rectangle, tie a pipe cleaner in the center, trim the two ends to curves  & fluff! Voila!

Jeni's has 6 locations in Central Columbus, but her delicious ice cream can be found across the nation in grocery stores such as Dean & Deluca or you can order online here!

Stay Awhile

There are many reasons to be a proud Ohioan.  In some ways and on certain days, it pays to be a Buckeye.  Since wearing my Ohio pride on my sleeve doesn’t seem to be enough, I figured I should probably plaster it on the internet. After spending more hours than I should say on the web reading food blogs, scrolling through beautiful décor images, and glancing at a restaurant menu here and there, I finally came to the conclusion that I should have a spot of my own in the blogosphere. I have yet to find a succinct blog with adventures and opinions all things Columbus, a site to graze the fun and cool places to eat, play, and discover in the Buckeye state. While most of the adventures chronicled on Hi Darling will be Columbus related, don’t hate me if from time to time I go explore someplace else for a while, for Ohio has my heart. And here’s a step inside…
